Needs Assessment Project for a Hypothetical Facility in the Florida Department of Corrections

This needs assessment report is a potential research scenario conducted at a hypothetical correctional facility within the Department of Corrections in the state of Florida. For the purposes of this report, the library in question represents an example of one of the libraries currently in operation within the Florida Department of Corrections facilities. This needs assessment will focus on a library collection at a male correctional facility and will use demographic data that depicts the entirety of the Florida prison population. When able, the demographic data will be exclusive to the male gender, but in regards to the elderly population, alien population, and education statistics, the data on both male and female populations will be used. The goal of this needs assessment is to determine the library collection needs of a hypothetical library at a male correctional facility in Florida.

LibGuide Project

This research guide aims to provide students at the University of South Florida with a comprehensive list of sources on the literary, artistic, and musical movement known as the Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance, which began in the 1920s, was a pivotal movement in African American history. Following World War I, African Americans in Harlem, New York began an artistic, literary, musical, and cultural movement that celebrated black identities and communities. Some of the notable figures of the Harlem Renaissance include Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Claude McKay, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Josephine Baker, Aaron Douglas, and W.E.B. DuBois. This research guide provides a variety of sources that will give students a foundational knowledge of the Harlem Renaissance and its impact on American history and culture. Rather than present any sort of biased viewpoint or information about the Harlem Renaissance, this research guide aims to provide students with the tools and sources they would need to determine their own opinions about the major figures, works, and impacts of the movement. Since the Harlem Renaissance included an extraordinary amount of key figures and works, it seemed irresponsible for this guide to include biographies/sources on any select few. Therefore, this guide includes lists of encyclopedias and dictionaries for students to peruse and discover the key figures and works for themselves. All reference sources in this research guide are available either through the USF library system or through online public access.
